Inspiration

I love poetry and occasionally, quotes....I'm starting this page off with some amazing words I saved on my computer from someone's blog (I can't for the life of me remember who; if it was you, THANK YOU!). They really are words to live by - for me, both in terms of jewellery making AND singing.

I'm going to add to this list over time....if you have anything you've found inspiring, please feel free to share it by emailing me!

Don't think about making art just get it done. Let everyone else decide if its good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.

Andy Warhol

“The advice I like to give young artists, or really anybody who’ll listen to me, is not to wait around for inspiration. Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up & get to work. If you wait around for the clouds to part & a bolt of lightning to strike you in the brain, you are not going to make an awful lot of work. All the best ideas come out of the process; they come out of the work itself. Things occur to you.”

Both are awesome and I'm going to print them for easy reference. I am a beginner. I will remain a beginner if I continue like I have and not take these words to heart! I needed to read your post and, apparently, need to read it often. I do get caught up in the self-bashing of 'how did she come up with that?' or 'wish my creative brain would work like these others do!' It's degrading and will certainly put a damper on any self-confidence that may have been sprouting forth. Thanks Rebecca!

..."make more art until they decide"...that get's me in the gut. I understand the person you can never please is yourself IF your are the growing phase. If you are considered a 'talent' you have not finished growing, you are just savoring the moment. I learn alot from You, songbead... I am still deciding, yet no longer what is art and who gets to say it is good but when to take a bow in front of my mirror. If you do not believe you have the potential of creating something wonderful, why continue? I consider myself 'an intrigued with talent' person, not so much talented myself. I do believe I know it, when I see.
